A Great Collection of Nonsense From a South Of The Border Guy

Almost like smoking

In In the Back of My Mind on March 3, 2009 at 9:24 am

Back in the summer of 2006 I decided to quit smoking. It was not a very hard decision, Canada helped a lot. This country fights back the smokers really hard. There was another thing: it was jsut about fighting only one cigarrette. It was simpler than expected, because I only had to fight the need of the next cigarrette and that was it. I read it sometime ago in a blog, and it worked great. I’ve been smoke free for almost three years.

Killer Passions

Killer Passions

A few of you know I used to have another blog, a much bigger, professional, good looking blog than this. it’s the blog I started writing almost at the same time I started my immmigration process. I talked about it a few posts ago. The fact is that, almost like smoking, the need of taking that blog back has been hitting me for days. And hitting hard, I have to say. But, opposite to what happened with the smoke, I did not find a formula to avoid it.

Some things are nto that easy to quit. When you have a real tendence and passion for something like writing, make connection through experiences, sharing thoughts and feelings… quitting is not that easy. Maybe it’s in my nature and I’ll have to cope with it. At the same time, those 90 days of distance with the other blog were good. It helped me to figure out what it really represented to me and my readers. What I wanted from it and how. And how I want it to follow.

The Blog needs a twist. It cannot be the same anymore just because we are not the same. It paid the initial debt more than well. Its initial gaol of helping others in their path to Canada is more than accomplished, now we must move forward. It’s time I start thinking of the blog as something for me, my passion for writing and so on and not as a “free-premium” service for “lazy immigrants to be” willing to find someone or something that can solve their problems at no cost.

Let’s see how it goes. At least, like smoking, it is not going to kill me! Or is it?

  1. for me, blogging is THE bad habit. Good thing my boss doesn´t know yet.

  2. Well, congratulations on being smoke-free. Isn’t this new blog fulfilling your blog addiction? And if not, why?

    • Hi XUP! This blog is not fulfilling my blogging addiction at all. And I think I know why: English is not my native language and I feel myself kind of limited at the time of expressing my ideas. Also, I could add that English is not my culture, therefore I find difficult to create rapport with my readers.
This does not mean I will not continue this blog. This is a good experience to work on my language skills and a way to overcome the limitations explained above.

Thanks for dropping by as usual!

  3. I quit smoking almost three years ago, and there are still days when I could go for a smoke. 🙂

What’s wrong with having two blogs?

    • Nothing’s wrong! Who said it’s wrong? people with two blogs are cooler because they can think about two different things at the same time! 😉
